On September 18, 2015, the team formally introduced Matías Almeyda as their new manager, with the declaration that he aimed to "awaken the giant." Almeyda wasted no time in showcasing his attacking football philosophy, securing victories in his initial four matches, notably triumphing over rivals Club América with a 2-1 score at the Estadio Azteca on September 26, 2015.
Chivas made history on July 10, 2016, when they competed in their first Supercopa MX match. They clinched the title by triumphing over Veracruz with a score of 2-0, with goals from Orbelin Pineda and Omar Bravo.
This victory also earned them a spot in the Copa Libertadores for the first time since 2012. However, they later had to forgo their participation because the Copa Libertadores underwent a format change that Mexican teams couldn't conform to, leading to their withdrawal from the competition.
