Salford City Football Club, based in Salford, Greater Manchester, completed the 2021–22 season in EFL League Two, the fourth tier of English football. Under the management of Gary Bowyer, the team finished 10th in the league, narrowly missing out on the promotion playoffs.

In cup competitions, Salford City reached the second round of the FA Cup but were eliminated in the first round of the EFL Cup and exited at the group stage of the EFL Trophy.

Founded in 1940 as Salford Central, the club underwent several name changes before adopting Salford City in 1989. A significant turning point occurred in 2014 when former Manchester United players Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Paul Scholes, and Nicky Butt each acquired a 10% stake in the club, with businessman Peter Lim holding the remaining shares. In 2019, David Beckham joined the ownership group, also taking a 10% stake.

This ownership has been instrumental in the club's rapid ascent through the English football pyramid, achieving three promotions in four years to reach the English Football League.
