During the 2009–2010 season, Unione Sportiva Triestina Calcio competed in Italy's Serie B and the Coppa Italia.

Serie B Performance:

  • League Position: Triestina finished 18th in Serie B, with 13 wins, 12 draws, and 17 losses, totaling 51 points.

  • Top Scorer: Emiliano Testini led the team with 11 goals.

  • Relegation Play-off: Finishing 18th required Triestina to participate in a relegation play-off against Padova. They were defeated 3–0, which would typically result in relegation to Lega Pro Prima Divisione. However, due to Ancona's administrative relegation, Triestina retained their place in Serie B for the following season.

Coppa Italia Performance:

Impressive run until the Round of 16.

Unione Sportiva Triestina Calcio 1918, commonly known as Triestina, has a rich history with several interesting aspects:

1. Foundation and Historical Roots

  • Founded in 1918: Triestina was established after the merger of two local clubs, Ponziana and Foot-Ball Club Trieste.
  • Tied to Trieste’s History: The club is based in Trieste, a historically significant port city with a unique cultural blend, influenced by Italian, Slovenian, and Austrian traditions.

2. Top Flight Success

  • Golden Era in Serie A: Triestina's most successful period was in the late 1940s and early 1950s. They achieved their best-ever Serie A finish in the 1947-48 season, placing second behind Torino.
  • Legendary Player: Nereo Rocco, the inventor of the famous "catenaccio" (an Italian tactical system emphasizing strong defense), played for and later managed Triestina. He is an iconic figure in Italian football.

3. Iconic Stadium

  • Stadio Nereo Rocco: Named after their legendary player and coach, the stadium is a modern facility with a capacity of over 20,000, reflecting the city’s love for football.
